Ascribe™ is a web application, hosted on our secure servers.  This provides several advantages to you:

Ascribe is designed to boost the productivity and accuracy of your coders.  Ascribe provides several coding environments, each of which is optimized for specific coding tasks.

In this coding environment, the coder is presented with a single verbatim at a time.  This environment is optimized for:

• Minimal training time
• Simultaneous coding of a question by multiple coders
• Verbatims of moderate to long length, requiring individual attention

This environment is designed for coding multiple responses simultaneously.  It is optimized for:

• Power users coding entire sets of verbatims based on sophisticated queries
• Supervisors reviewing the work of individual coders
• Fast codebook editing and approval

This environment is designed to efficiently process verbatims with common phrases.  It is optimized for:

• Brand mentions
• Frequently reused Codebooks 
• Common short responses (e.g. Other-specify responses)

Closed-end responses are assigned a numeric value to match their incoming value.  While there is no requirement in Ascribe™ to code closed-end responses, this coding can be useful to allow:

• Coders referencing related closed-ends when coding a verbatim
• Filtering verbatims to be coded by closed-ends answers
• Mapping closed-end responses to different output codes when retrieving data
• Creating a unified Ascribe database from varied intput files - Data Management
• Reporting in Ascribe CrossWord

Loading data is the process of adding your verbatim and closed-end data to Ascribe™.  There are many standard file formats supported for this purpose, including:

• Mapped/Delimited ASCII and text files
• "Card/column" or numeric format
• Excel spreadsheets
• XML documents, Triple-S
• Audio files
• Scanned image files
• All Popular Survey Tools, ConfirmIT, NIPO, SPSS/Dimensions/SAV, CfMC, Voxco, GMI, Nebu, Pulsetrain, DASH, Surveycraft...

In addition to the standard file formats, Ascribe™ provides a template mechanism for custom load-file formats.  Language Logic can create custome scripts to handle your specific file formats.

Ascribe™ can load setup files (metadata) that define the structure of a study.  This can dramatically reduce setup time, and reduce data entry errors.

Ascribe™ also supports automatic data loading through an FTP site.  This can completely automate your data loading, so that data simply "appears" in Ascribe™ automatically from your data collection systems and locations.

Data can be exported from Ascribe™ in many formats:

A User Defined output template is useful for creating custom data files and tabulation specs that contain either code book information or the results of coding.  This is a simple-to-use output facility that can handle many of your data format requirements.

For more complex output, Ascribe™ supports Scripted Output.  Using this feature Language Logic can construct output files containing information in nearly any format.  Language Logic can tailor these output formats to your specific needs.  Many custom scripts exist currently.

Ascribe™ also supports automatic data downloading through your own secure FTP site or email.  This can completely automate your data reporting, so that data is delivered to the appropriate staff or to your network at designated times.

Ascribe™ supports a variety of on-line reports.  These provide information for coding results, quality assurance, and data analysis to your global staff via any Internet connection.

Using the Scripted Output facilities of Ascribe, Language Logic can create custom reports in text or HTML format to meet your specific requirements.

Reports may be scheduled to run at specific times, and the results emailed to the appropriate staff.

Ascribe CrossWord offers online tabulation with drill-down access to respondent level verbatims and data.

You control access to your Ascribe™ account.  Each user has a username and password that you assign.  A user has associated privileges, such as Administrator, Supervisor, Coder -- Client.  Users can access only those portions of Ascribe™ permitted by their privilege level.  You can create as many user accounts as you like.  There is no per-user fee for using Ascribe™.

In addition, you can allow your Customers to use Ascribe™.  When you grant access to a customer, the customer can view only those studies specifically assigned to the company they work for.  Customers can view and download information only, they cannot change information in Ascribe™.

Noticeably absent from your administrative tasks are such things as software installation, managing upgrades, and ensuring the proper operation of the Ascribe™ servers.  These tasks are all performed by Language Logic.

Our servers have a dedicated hardware accelerator for secure communication.  This allows you to access Ascribe™ using a secure network connection (https) on all interactions with Ascribe™ without loss of performance.  If desired, you can configure your Ascribe™ site to require the use of a secure connection for all users.
